A series of books by S.M. Stirling, starting with "Dies the Fire".
What happens when the lights go out... for good?
In the first few pages of the first book, everything changes.
Anything powered... is no longer powered.
Internal combustion no longer works.
Electricity no longer conducts to power electrical gadgets.
The fast combustion required to propel a small piece of lead through a steel tube at deadly velocity toward a living target... just fizzles, slowly, and propels nothing.
The books follow various groups of survivors of the great dying of hunger... the plague... and the inevitable struggle for influence, and political superiority amongst relatively small enclaves of people.
I think it's well worth the read.

We'd be fighting 2nd tier Goa'Ulds, too... While we wouldn't have the glory of killing Amon Ra the ruler of a thousand worlds and terror of the System Lords, we WOULD get to fight his younger brother... Bubba Ray. Manager of the Ra-Mart, and terror of those who abuse the quarter fed riding Unas out front of the store.
