And so it begins...

You are all present at the Carbonite Lounge at roughly the same time, though you are all in different areas of the rather large establishment. The Carbonite Lounge is actually one of the more respectable establishments on Nar Shaddaa. Located halfway up the Grundo Fuel Concern refuelling arm, at the heart of the Rodian district, the Carbonite Lounge is a classy combination of bar, dance club, and cabaret entertainment. Security is maintained by bouncers (primarily Rodians) dressed in dark clothes, who stay near the exits and maintain constant "patrols" around the Lounge. The Lounge is odd in that it allows patrons to keep their weaponry on them within the premises; however, they maintain a strict "shoot and be shot" policy that has discouraged most violent outbursts (especially the few times they've had to exercise that policy).

Todrin - you are here as you usually are. Your boss, a Rodian named Suda Grundo (a descendant of Brusu Grunto who founded Grunto Fuel Concern) is friends with the owner of the Lounge. Subsequently, you enjoy half-price on all your drinks.

Sid - you've just arrived on Nar Shaddaa. The place is incredibly foreign to you, but you're coping with it. You find it similar to Coruscant, only more dangerous and seedy, and that has helped you make it to the Carbonite Lounge. You have been waiting for Saris for five hours now, but there is no sign of her.

Ellora - if things went bad, you were supposed to split up and meet at the Carbonite Lounge. Well, things went bad after the you saw the Grunto Port Authority checking out your ship. You did your part, and made it to the Carbonite Lounge. It's been two hours now, and still no sign of him. You are understandably worried.

Zaan - you've spent a few days scoping the sights on Nar Shaddaa, looking for good places to find work. You almost got a job running crates of "goods" across refueling spires, but you quickly found out it was a Hutese slavery scam and got out before things got bad. Tonight finds you in the Carbonite Lounge, and prospects look good... you can see many wealthy merchants and nobles scoping the crowd, searching for (you hope) "employees".

Gida' - your annoyance has been steadily growing for the past few hours. Your father isn't exactly known for his punctuality, but he's never kept you waiting this long. He probably messed up his scheduling, or forgot about your plans, or is off getting chased by the law, or something similarly stupid... but even still, you're probably starting to get worried.

Kahynur - you heard through the grapevine that the Carbonite Lounge on Nar Shaddaa was a good place to pick up a decent-paying job. You haven't gotten any hits yet, but you've only been here 20mins, and the night is still young.

Each of you suddenly notice a thin duraplastic card laying next to your drinks. None of you can determine who put it there; it certainly wasn't there when you arrived, and you don't remember anyone placing it there. On one side, the card has a large red a blue logo with a stylized Z and F. The name "Zodo Fralik: private entrepeneur" appears along the bottom. The other side of the card contains a message, which is unique for each of you (you will receive these in PMs)

Sid Dantalis

Sid is swathed in a deep cloak and spends a great deal of time avoiding eye contact. The drink (a bit stronger than he expected) is helping immensely. All of his gear is stowed in a single shoulder bag. He keeps the cloak drawn and closed. It appears he's specifically trying to hide something inside the left inner pocket of the cloak (lightsaber). He was too afraid of losing it to stow it, but also too afraid to have it be seen. It is tucked in to a pocket and completely hidden from view--it may take a few extra seconds to draw, but if it comes down to drawing it, he figures he's probably dead anyway. When he notices the card he can't help the rush of emotion, but he holds still and repeats an inner calming mantra until he feels peace return. He tries to catch a view of the booth in a mirror or by attempting to subtly sweep the room.

Well... It's either a long career as a bar regular at the Carbonite Lounge or go see who this guy is and, at the very least, how he even knew I have a Master.

Sid collects his things, pays the tab and moves over to the 2nd booth to the left of the stage.

Ellora Entaris sits quietly at the bar, sizing up everybody. It seems that most of the patrons think she is a child, and wonder what she is doing in such a rough establishment. Even still, she tries to act tough. Seeing the card, she picks it up and examines it curiously.

What the heck is this? When did this get here?

Ellora closes her eyes for a moment, gathering her thoughts. Then, stealing one last glance at the dancer on stage, she pays for her drink and stands up. She touches her right hip and her left thigh, perhaps for reassurance, then purposefully walks to the second booth on the left.

Zaan Sa is sittin at one of the tables, taking her time to nurse her drink to make it last. Unlike many of the other patrons, she's not here in her fancy clothes, but rather wearing well worn spacer gear. She seems to be checking different people out, sizing them up for something or another and spending most of her time watching those who are obviously wealthy and/or powerful. She looks surprised that someone set a card next to her without noticing, and looks around suspiciously before reading it. She turns it over in her hands a few times, eyeing people. Eventually though, she drains the last of her drink and stands, slinging her cloak about her shoulders. Then she walks over ot the second booth to the left of the stage with resolution.

Kahynur sat at the bar, drinking away the credits he had earned from his last job as a shipboard soldier, hoping the next group of pirates won't be so sloppy and will be alot more professional. He took another drink of the strange mix he had been served, wondering how much it had been watered down as he noticed the small plastic card sitting next to his glass, ignoring it for several minutes until he finished the drink, sliding the glass away as he picked up the card, trying to see if he remembered the logo, then flipping it over to read the back before tucking it into his pocket standing up.

Well that was alot faster than things usually take. Must be another one of these supposedly vital and urgent jobs... Hope he's not another idiot who wants some Hutt slug killed.

Standing up from his seat, he picks up his backpack, making sure his rifle is still securly affixed to the side as he throws it onto his shoulder and walks over to the table indicated.

Todrin Loran

Man this is great, Todrin thinks to himself with a pleased grin as he takes a pull on his drink. It pays to have friends in high places.

Todrin's eyes wonder over the night's gathered crowd and wonders idly whose ship he'll be crawling around in later. After a while he spots the card on the table at looks at it.

"Where'd you come from?" he mutters to himself as he picks it up.

Let's see what you have to say for yourself, he thinks as he flips the card over to read its back. Todrin drains his drink before standing and making his way haphazardly to the indicated booth.

Gida grumbles at the card's appearance and glances around the room once more, looking for her father. She picks up the card and examines it carefully. The message on the back fills her with dread and she looks carefully (and suspiciously) around the room. She sticks the card in pocket, picks up her drink, and heads toward the booth mentioned on the card.

Sid: As you begin to move towards the bar, you catch a glimpse of a very familiar face. Even though it was only a fleeting glimpse, you are certain you know who that face belongs to. You make a beeline through the crowd towards that face, disappearing into the Nar Shaddaa nightlife.

The rest: You each arrive at the booth at roughly the same time. This causes an awkward moment as you each realize you were not the only one given a card. Before any of you have a chance to say anything, a voice speaks from within the booth.

"Pardon the dramatics," it says. The voice speaks very good Basic, though the Rodian accent is unmistakable. "Things are dangerous here. Besides, I much prefer to have people come to me than the other way around. Please, have a seat. I've taken the liberty of ordering you each another round."

From out of the shadows leans a smiling green Rodian face. His left antenna is clipped a little short (presumably by accident). He is rather finely dressed, but his clothes also appear very practical: like the garments of a wealthy tradesperson. The booth is very deep, able to seat a dozen people easily. Like he said, there are a variety of drinks on the table; you each recognize the beverage you were previously drinking among the motley collection of glasses. There appear to be four extra drinks, including a steaming cup of Caf and a thick, bitter drink favoured by Transhodans.

The Rodian is smiling at you as a group, waiting for you to sit and enjoy your drinks.

Ellora looks at the other patrons a moment, waiting for someone to make the first move. Sensing an awkward pause, she shrugs her shoulders and slips into the booth, her eyes inviting the rest to follow. When seated, she smiles at the Rodian sitting there and then silently eyes the other patrons, sizing them up. Her body language seeking approval from this presumed benefactor, she reaches for a glass of the same drink she had before.

Gida looks down at the drink she'd brought with her, downs it, and switches out the empty glass for the full one on the table before taking a seat. She nods slightly to the others and sits far enough back in the seat that she can keep as many as possible in her field of vision.

The Rodian nods to himself, as if confirming some internal wager. "Please, don't be shy," he says to the rest of you still standing. "I swear by my ship and by my credstick that the offer I have for you is one you will not want to pass up."

He takes a sip of his own drink which, by colour and smell, appears to be Corellian Ale. He looks expectantly as those still standing.

Zaan takes a few moments longer before slipping into the booth, occupying one of the outside places. She takes the new drink and sniffs at it, then holds it in front of her politely. "Your card said you were looking to hire me for a job? What kind of job were you thinking of?"

Reaches the table and sits down, glancing briefly at the others and looking over the Rodian suspiciously for a moment before he grabs his drink and starts in on it, waiting for the others.

Todrin

Todrin grabs himself a seat and then the refill of his drink that is on the table. He looks over the Rodian and tries to figure out what the sentient wants.

"Quite correct," begins the Rodian, responding to Zaan's question. "In fact, I have a job for all of you. For beings of your... skills, it should be relatively easy. As to compensation... for all of you I have money. For some of you," he tellingly glances at Gida and Ellora, "I have information of far greater importance."

The Rodian eases back in his seat and takes a sip of his ale. "As you have probably guessed, I am Zodo Fralik. In my line of work I sometimes encounter... inconveniences. When I do, I often find myself relying on able-bodied beings such as yourselves to help rectify things."

Zodo learns forward. "In brief, I need the five of you to steal a ship. Pardon me... 'steal' is not the right word. It is my ship. It was confiscated, unfairly, by the Nar Shaddaa Port Authority. I have very valuable cargo aboard that ship, and I stand to lose a dear amount if the Port Authority scrimps it. It'll be an easy job; the ship is likely locked down in the Port Authority shipyard lower on the Grundo arm. Getting it back will be a simple matter of making your away around the Port Authority officials, disabling the grounding clamps, and soaring away with the Dream of Freedom."

Zodo reaches into a pocket in his vest and removes a package of deathsticks. "That's the ship's name, the Dream of Freedom. You like it? Thought of it myself."

He offers the package of deathsticks to everyone.

Gida listens closely to Fralik's description of the job.
"Yeah, the ship's got a great name," she grumbles. "Then what?" She nods slightly and slips on of the deathsticks from the pack. "We liberate your ship for the Port Authority and then what?"
She waits for an answer from Fralik or more discussion from the others he's chosen to assemble. She watches the Rodian carefully, wondering what sort of information he might have and just how the timing happened to be so convenient for him.

Zodo taps his deathstick on the package. It instantly lights - only the expensive deathsticks auto-light. He offers the pack to Gida so she can light hers.

"You take the ship into the fog, in the lower levels of the moon, where the Port Authority won't follow. I'll provide you with a map to where I will meet you once the ship is recovered. The Dream is fast enough to give those Authority mooks the slip, so it should be no trouble."

"Five thousand credits upfront," Zodo responds, "plus a fifty-percent cut, split five ways, of what I make off the Dream's cargo." You're guaranteed to make at least fifteen thousand each off of that, but it will likely be much more than that."

Yeah, I'm sure there's a good reason they're called deathsticks, thinks Ellora. She sits back in her seat and folds her arms across her abdomen.

"Money is nice," she says, "but that doesn't explain some things. For instance, why us? I'm not sure how you know so much about me, either. Give me a good answer and I might help you. Something doesn't feel right."

Ellora pauses for a moment, lost in thought. After about a minute, she speaks. "Okay, Mr. Fralik, I'll go along with your little plan. But I still want some answers."

Despite her petite frame, Ellora attempts to use her natural charisma to elicit some answers.

"I know your kind well," Zodo responds to Ellora. "I know the credits don't mean much to you. But I do have answers; almost all the answers you need. For example, I know there's someone you've been looking for."

He pauses for a moment to let that sink in, then continues. "He will need your help soon. And I can give you all the details... if you aid in this endeavor. Think of it as mutual assistance. You help me with my precious things, and I help you with yours."

"Besides," he adds, "in these shaky times, it's best a person like you stays on the move. Any other 'employer' would have sold you out to a bounty hunter by now." He emphasizes that last statement with a knowing wink.

"So, what about the rest of you?" he asks the rest of the group. "Are you in, or does this endeavor hold no interest for you?"

Zaan Sa things for a long moment, running a red finger around the top of her drink and looking at the Rodian closely. "I'm in. You don't have any information that would interest me, I'm sure. I don't even know what you two are talking about. But the money sounds pretty good, and I can always skip planet if things go to bad. Yeah, count me in."
