J.J. Dawson was your average high school jock... Average grades. Good looks. Exceptional wrestling record... And blissfully unaware of the dark forces at work in his town.

Just after wrestling season ended, J.J. was at home with his parents on a rainy evening wishing he was not doing his homework. His mother got up to answer a knock at the door, and saw several young people, soaked, shivering, and saying that some maniac had shot out one of the tires on their car, and could they please come in and use the phone to call a tow truck.

His mother allowing the poor young people in, J.J. went to fetch them the cordless phone. When he re-entered the living room of his house, he was shocked to see these nice young people biting his parents, and sucking their blood from their throats. J.J. tackled one of the creatures on his mother, and jumped up to try to get another one off, when he was grabbed from behind. J.J. heard an animalistic growl just behind his ear and then felt a sharp pain on the side of his neck. One of the creatures put its mouth on his neck, and began to suck the blood from the punctures... Then he saw blackness, and knew nothing...

When J.J. awoke, he was in the hospital, in the intensive care unit. He could barely remember what had happened. His memories were fuzzy, and he was extremely weak. When a nurse checked on him, he asked about his parents. The nurse left and brought in a doctor who was checking him over, and trying to sidetrack his questions about his parents. J.J.’s aunt and uncle came into his room, and were telling him that he’d come and stay with them in the Bay Area. This gave him all his answers. Letting his aunt and uncle know in no uncertain terms that they would have to fly his corpse out there, if they wanted him there, he got on the phone and contacted a lawyer who had been a friend of his father. After months in the hospital and courts, he won his emancipation, and using the money from his parents’ insurance, he paid off the house where he had lived since he was a child, and purchased a motorcycle.

And he plotted.

He wanted revenge on the creatures who had killed his parents, and nearly killed him. He went to school, making contact with certain students who could get him things he needed, and found a kindred spirit in Liberty Haley. Now, when he has the opportunity, he hunts the creatures of the night, exacting revenge when he can for his parents and for his friend, Liz Halley, who joined the ranks of the night creatures...

He Chases Shadows, and brings light to all the dark places he can.
