As a child, Allair knew only a handful of true friends. His parents had died when he was an infant, leaving him to be raised by the priests at the local temple... a temple of Kord.

His only constant companion was a young dwarf who came from his mountain home to visit with the boy and teach him things that the temple might pass over in his education.

Allair never understood why Daelok chose to befriend him, but he did not question the dwarf's companionship. It must have been something like having a brother, Allair decided. It was true that the priests cared for him and taught him the way of life he would choose to lead, but Daelok chose his role... he was not bound to it by society.

Allair studied the ways of the temple, becoming a priest of Kord. It was not expected of him, he knew, but it was the path he chose. Daelok supported his decision, but would, on occasion, taunt him good-naturedly about his choice.

Shortly after Allair came of age, Daelok presented him with an option he had, up to that point, not considered. Daelok would be leaving to seek adventure. Did Allair want to join him?

He hadn't really thought about it, but the thought of being away from the only constant person in his life was not an option Allair was ready to face.

He told the elder priests of his plans to accompany his friend. They sent him on his way with their blessings, and he and Daelok began their adventures.

*On a side note, Daelok was killed deep within the Sunless Citadel by a fire-breathing druid. Allair was understandably irritated and became somewhat difficult to live with, but has calmed down some now that Daelok's resurrection.
