From the time
they were able to toddle around the house together, Alex and his twin
sister, Liberty, were getting into trouble... usually together.
So when the flashy blonde offered Liberty tickets to the new club's
grand opening, it was no surprise that the second ticket was almost
immediately shoved into Alex's hand. He wasn't really interested in the
new club, but he also wasn't going to make his sister go alone...
especially if that blonde was going to be there.
There was something about that guy that Alex just didn't trust.
The club was dark, warm, and loud - just like every other club in Seattle.
The only thing missing from this dance floor was the neon and laser light
show. Alex watched from the shadows along the wall as the blonde charmed
Liberty out onto the dance floor. Had she had been with anyone else, Alex
decided, he would love to see Liberty laughing and smiling. But not with
this guy. He still didn't trust the overly charming blonde, and Liberty,
he decided, was just going to have to trust his instincts.
Alex started toward where they danced, but when the lights cut out
completely, he panicked. He barreled through the darkness to where he
thought he'd last seen his sister.
A clawed hand dropped on his shoulder, holding him in place.
"What of this one?" the voice hissed from behind him.
The blonde looked up; his face a horrible distortion of what it had
been. Ridges crept up his face under his shocking blonde hair and long
fangs shown from beneath his snarled lips. Alex could see Liberty laying
over the blonde's arm in a daze.
Without stopping to think about what he might be getting into, Alex
made one desperate attempt to save his sister.
"Take me," he told the blonde. "Do whatever you want to me, just let
her go."
It never occurred to Alex that he might have just sold his soul.
When Alex awoke, he was staring up into darkness. The place was
dark, warm, and altogether comfortable. The flashy blonde sat on the edge
of a nearby table.
"Well, good evening," he purred.
Alex sat up, his eyes adjusting easily to the darkness around him.
There was a word in his mind - one that seemed important, but that he just
couldn't place.
"Liberty?"
The blonde shook his head.
"She hasn't come home yet, Alex."
A spark of recognition lit behind Alex's eyes, but it was far from a
memory. The events of the night had been twisted in his mind. He only
knew, now, what they wanted him to know. "And that is
unfortunate," a smooth voice came from one of the shadowed alcoves.
Alex saw him as he came into the room, a dark haired man who looked
like he didn't have a care in the world.
"Alex, Dylan, it's time to go home."
Dylan, the blonde, looked at the dark haired man in disbelief.
"Home?" Dylan's hands twisted in childish delight.
"Yes, Dylan. She's moved to Rio Hevrir."
"Well, that will make it much easier, won't it?"
Alex broke his silence. "I can bring her home," he said softly.
"She'll come home with me."
"That is just what we're counting on, Alex," the dark haired man
smiled. "That is exactly what we're counting on."
